part of Amtrak's problem is that they have to share rail lines with commercial trains, they get priority so Amtrak trains have to wait sometimes up to an hour for those commercial trains to pass

I've had some pretty frustrating experiences on Amtrak trains (this one time the concession stand worker couldn't sell me a bottle of water until a certain time even though he was sitting right there), but it is a good service if you don't have a car and you are in no rush to get to your destination

Not so, I work for a class 1 railroad. All freight clears for an amtrak train. We can't even work on the tracks with in an hour either side of the planned amtrak time. As for heat with CWR (continuous welded rail), heat can be a huge problem if it is too hot and the rail has not been heat adjusted correctly then the whole track will buckle and derail the train. Same goes for too cold. Cold can pull the rail apart.

For me personally, I have never had a problem with Amtrak and i have rode on it at least 20 times and my father goes on business trips all the time on the Amtrak and he hasn't had any problem. Well except one time this guy got to drunk and tried to start a fight with the conductor so when we pulled into the station we had to wait 20 mins for the cops to come and arrest him but that wasn't a failure on Amtraks part. Maybe my story is in the minority, but i've had nothing but sucess with it.

Which gov't run entity is more pathetic? Amtrak or USPS? Now that would be a good debate. Both are inefficient, both are stuck in the past & both waste gobs of money.

@mbarrera47 I guess you can't really live under a city, b/c it would be part of the city if you lived there. you could live in a basement? it would save on your energy bill b/c it's more stable temperature down there. but yeah earthquakes...

EVEN IF that is somehow posible, that will be a dangerous and very stupid thing to live underground. The reason is this location have earthquakes!!!
