100 years ago (17 Aug 1911) : Birth of Mikhail Botvinnik, Russian chess player, international grandmaster, 3 times world champion. Here in 1945. First radio transmitted chess contest USA-USSR. Mikhail Botvinnik, the Soviet champion, and his team of Soviet chess masters, against the American champion Denker (?). Room of radiotelegraphists, CU women typing and cabling each move of each contestant during the games, CU hands, fingers typing, CU telegraph strips. Russian players are : Grandmasters Vassily Smyslov, Isaak Boleslavsky, Salo Flohr, Alexander Kotov, Igor Bondarevsky, Andor Lilienthal, Masters Viacheslav Ragozin, Vladimir Makagonov and the young Master David Bronstein (at the age of 20). Russians have won, players come to congratulate Botvinnik.
