Cost of Livin' Lyrics. Uploaded by JDUB. Please Watch

Written by: Phillip Coleman/Ronnie Dunn (SESAC)/(BMI)

Everything to know about me is written on this page
A number you can reach me
My social and my age
Yes, I served in the army
It's where I learned to shoot
Eighteen months in the desert
Pourin' sand out of my boots
No, I've never been convicted of a crime
I could start this job at any time

I got a strong back
Steel toes
I rarely call in sick
A good truck
What I don't know
I catch on real quick
I work weekends if I have to
Nights and holidays
Give you forty and then some
Whatever it takes
Three dollars and change at the pump
The cost of livin's high and goin' up

I put Robert down as a reference
He's known me all my life
We attend the same church
He introduced me to my wife
I gave my last job everything
Before it headed south
Took the shoes off of my children's feet
Food out of their mouths
Yesterday my folks offered to help
But they're barely gettin' by themselves

I got a strong back
Steel toes
I rarely call in sick
A good truck
What I don't know
I catch on real quick
I work weekends if I have to
Nights and holidays
Give you forty and then some
Whatever it takes
Three dollars and change at the pump
The cost of livin's high and goin' up

I'm sure a hundred others have applied
But rumor has it you're only takin' five

I got a strong back
Steel toes
I'm handy with a wrench
There's nothin' I can't drive
There's nothin' I can't fix
I work sunup
To sundown
Ain't too proud to sweep the floors
The bank has started callin'
And the wolves are at my door
Three dollars and change at the pump
I do NOT OWN any of This.
The cost of livin's high and goin' up

  • My husband and I have been looking for work for months now. We both got laid off. My husband cuts wood right now to make the lights stay on. we work hard.

  • It's a sad truth that true hard working people are effed out of their jobs everyday. All we want is someone to recognize that we truly bust our asses unlike some others. People who are listening to this song get me. Just want to work hard, come home, and be with the family. Can I get an AMEN!

  • @cass82late Thanks, I really appreciate your post as well. Such a beautiful song.

  • @L2Flip I like your post thank you for taking time out to write it. Every person i meet these days rich or poor wants everything "right now" They dont even care how.: My Faith has been running so very low lately, I'm not around alot folks that care enough to keep manners around. This song has been out for sum time now{ & I gotta tell you my wallet has indeed increased a tidbit.> But it came with a price. I love this song & those souls like yours- taking the time out to write a post.xoxo

  • I JUST SAW THIS SONG ON MTV COUNTRY MUSIC CHANNEL AND LOVED IT

SOOOO TRUE LIFE IF HARD :-)

    BEAUTIFUL SONG

AND I LIKE HOW HE SAID THE JOBS ARE BEING LAID OFF ETC

COZ my partner lost his job 7 weeks ago and he can't get no job and his a qualified builder its a joke! LIFES HARD ATM NEVER USED TO BE

  • @sashaa911 i will keep you in my prayers and i am so sorry to hear that

  • you know i think that its bullshit that the people that love their job and get to choose it and have fun doing it make more money than the people that get stuck with the shitty jobs.

  • "I know life is hard with it's up and downs,

With happy smiles and tearful frowns,

Life is hard when the end is near,

When courage falls and faces fear,

Life is hard when you try and try,

your still grounded and can not fly,

Life is Hard and sometimes you feel,

like hope wont end it isn't real

But even though lifes hard someday we'll see,

Good times will come for both you and me."

  • I'm 19, and my little small family I'm the only one who has work right now. I work at 4 am til whenever they ask me to unloading trucks and unpacking boxes, and I'm a small girl! Just got to do what we can right? I'm very thankful that I have a job, and my bosses are great. But my family is sad that I'm the only one who has a job right now...its hard, unemployment only lasts so long.

  • love the song and video!

  • I happen to be a very lucky person. My parents happen to be quite wealthy and it's even led to my success in life. But, that's not the point of this passage. The fact is that I respect everyone who works extremely hard to put food on the table for their family. I respect everyone and anybody who does what they can in order to survive. I do whatever I can to support people and to help them out in time of need. Without hard working people stuff just wouldn't get done progress would never be made.
