The point why Peter Griffin is there is because it's a joke and reference about Peter and Family Guy being a clone to Homer from the negative criticism. Even though I myself and pretty much all the Family Guy fans know that Family Guy is a rip-off of The Simpsons, no offense, pretty much no one cares about the whole rip-off thing and will only remember the laughs that Family Guy brought, just like the laughs that The Simpsons brought... but The SImpsons will always be my #1 show, no matter what.
