Captive animal managers use a variety of techniques to ensure that their animals are stimulated and have a use for the scents that provide so much function and survival in the wild. The wolves at the Center provide a great deal of stimulus between pack members, but as a summer time initiative, the wolves have two special days a week for treats, scents, smells, and new items to investigate, possess, defend and enjoy. Each individual wolf is different and the enrichment items vary each week, but may include: minnows in the pond, beaver foot popcicles, scents of beaver castor, deer hormones, or catnip, and this week's enrichment, watermelons, cantelope and honey dew. The mellows are not nearly as exciting as meat to a carnivore.

  • great video--I did not think they would like melons--neat idea. I saw a wolf eating grapes one time but then also read that grapes were not good for them. If they are you could hang a few bunches of grapes in the trees for them to eat.

  • awesome video !!:)

  • cool
