Julia Butterfly Hill is known for climbing a 1,000 year-old redwood tree in 1997 when she was 23 years old, and remaining there without touching the ground for two years, as part of a successful effort to call worldwide attention to the destruction of California's ancient redwoods. Since then, she has addressed the U.N., lobbied Congress, and continued to stand on the front lines of environmental and social justice issues all over the world. She is the author of The Legacy of Luna: The Story of a Tree, a Woman and the Struggle to Save the Redwoods and One Makes the Difference: Inspiring Actions That Change Our World.

  • I spontaneously cried watching this and am not ashamed to admit it.

  • @NicolaRedwooddforest Why did so few people want to sign the petition? They couldn't be bothered? Or were they against the protection of the Redwoods?

Thanks for what you do. I'm in the northeast so it's hard for me to help - I can only try to tell people about it.

  • yeah i'd do her

  • @Codesdecoded You are wrong, go look at the facts. It is not an issue.

  • Thank you for the upload. Kindly regards from germany to those who understand. Trees are so wonderful. Love to Julia, we miss you.

  • This lady is retarded. There is nothing wrong with logging. There is as much forest coverage today as there was 100 years ago, that is an indisputable fact so do not disagree lefties as facts cannot be disputed.

  • @zezt how dare you!

  • i hope Luna is doing okay!

  • @twochordcool Thank you for your activism. We helped in LA to petition on the streets to collect enough signatures to get the protection of the Redwoodforest on the the actual voting ballot. Very few people signed. Most people ignored us even though they heard us say "Would you like to sign to protect the Redwoodforest". Some people laughed about me, one lady got mad at me yelling at me for what I was doing. I was looked at with amusement and often with anger. Most people are not aware.

  • @twochordcool The Redwoodforest is cut down by more than 99 percent today. I tried to put this issue on the ballot for California. We stood in front of stores and less than 5 percent of people signed the petition. Julia Hill initiated this petition. I flew over the Redwoodforest from San Francisco to Crescent City and I saw the clear cut open areas. I totally agree with you, there should not be any negotiations over whether to clear cut or not. Not one more tree can be logged. This is serious.

  • It`s easy to lump her into a criticism charged stereotype but at the end of the day, how many people who criticize her would have the balls to stand up for a meaningful cause? It takes real inspiration to see past your own little world and sacrifice everything for something outside of the world you live in.
