The Social Model of Disability (SMoD) came out of the Human Rights Movement. In short, people are disabled where there is failure to take into account needs arising from physical or mental differences and remove the physical or social barriers to equal inclusion.
Some people take the SMoD too far and hide behind it and this can be a disabling barrier too. It could turn the SMoD in to the same joke that political correctness has become.

  • the thing with this 'model' thing (which is something that is quite new to me as im one of those disabled people that didnt want to 'do' disabled in the past so i didnt keep up with that world) is that i think the jump from the medical model to the social model is a bit of a leap too far, its better than the medical model obviously, but wouldnt it be better to have a model that sits somewhere in the middle?, a medical/social model,

  • nice video :)

  • from my experience the reality is that trying to get the reasonable adjustment of a private workspace is asking way too much and being unrealistic... we are expected to be social and communicative, and to be in an environment where social and communicative activity is constantly taking place, even if i would rather just get on with the analytical work that i do... not like i'm asking them to STFU, just get me away from it long enough to de-stress, like 7 hours a day, until then it is a big issue
