**This only applies to people who have HP or Compaq.**
WARNING USING DARIK'S BOOT & NUKE (DBAN) WILL ERASE CURRENT OS SYSTEM AND EVERY FILE.
*Make sure you have a bootable OS disk by your side or hard drive will not read anything. When booting your DVD or CD make sure to Boot your BIOS menu so you can make your CD drive read first when cpu is starting up.*

If you only want to see the 3 Awesome Vista tools
go to 7:50 mark of the video.

Code Purple is an error where you have to ship back your computer
to your manufacturing company. More likely the only
PC's to get code purple is HP or Compaq. The tech support will mention re-tattooing the motherboard for your computer. I don't
know about other computer companies. If you want to save
money and download a torrent and only spend for a blank dvd.
Then this video is for you.

My 3 favorite tools to use.

If you recently purchased a new power supply and it doesn't work when you short circuited your computer by accident like I did then I recommend that you return your power supply in exchange for a new one. If any other components fried then I suggest getting a new part for your PC. Make sure your components are still in working order. Check your video card, ATX connectors, SATA connectors, 4-pin Molex connectors, 6-pin Molex connectors (Powering motherboard and video card), and fan connectors are all plugged in place.

If your cpu blanks out with a black screen. I suggest powering down the power supply off then on. If the hard drive boots the OS system but freezes try again by powering the power supply off then on but before doing so make sure every component is hooked up to the power supply. Trust me it worked for me. If your power supply comes up with a ***RED*** light in the back. 1 of 2 things can occur either you fried your power supply or you fried your video card. If you fried your motherboard might as well purchase another one at Fry's Electronic store.

Another way you can power up your cpu is by taking out the lithium battery on the motherboard and reinserting it back in. That is another way to check is the power supply is working. The only reason why I know this because I did this all myself.

The only thing I notice differently when I short circuited my computer is a shortage of reading the RAM. About quarter of gig was not read from my 3 gigs of RAM. No big deal since most of the computers in 2009 come with 3 gigs already and it makes RAM so cheap. I purchased 1 gig of ram for $19.99 @ Best Buy bringing my cpu to 4 gigs of RAM. A year ago in 2008 1 gig of RAM was about $99.99 I have a 32-bit system so it will only read 3454mb of ram. If you have a 64-bit system it will read 4 gigs or more on your cpu.

After installing Windows Vista Home Premium torrent with my own OEM product key. Validated my Vista on Microsoft's website and then I downloaded and installed Service Pack 1. It definitely works!! n_n

What am I running in my HP cpu?
Nvidia 9600 GSO 768 MB
4 gigs of RAM (3454 MB only can be read)
32-bit System.
Intel Duo Core 2 Duo Processor clocking @ 2.13 GHZ
Upgraded CPU fans for better cooling.
Using Antec Fan 3 Switcher 80mm and one slot fan.
Took out network card because I'm not using it.
Came with a TV tuner to watch TV or record shows.
& Two 320 gig hard drives.
(HP Factory Default is 250 gigs. After using DBAN I got 298 gigs. o_0
I have 50 gigs more on my hard drive.)

If I knew more about computers back then like I do now I would've built my own custom gaming computer for about the same price with better hardware, and I would've overclocked my processor to one GHZ more.

Too bad HP and Compaq computers lock their processor menu therefore you can't mess with the processor setting to make the computer overclock and run faster. (Note that I know overclocking lowers the life expectancy for the cpu even though it is so worth it.)

  • how do i get to cmd when the purple code box shows up and i can't do anything else but to shut down the computer

  • @zxcv1175 you get the cmd through repairing ur cpu by pressing F8 before cpu boot starts or the 2nd option is to wait for the code purple, hit the windows key, click run, cmd. note run it as administrator so u will have full priority.

  • I had to change my motherboard and then did the Compaq recovery now I get Code Purple.

    Will this fix it?

  • @cnivekc yes. that is why i like building custom computers rather than using precustom builds from hp and compaq. what happen over fry your motherboard and lithium battery die out? make sure you have a bootable os system, use ultimate boot cd and have disc be the first one to put up in your bios menu.

  • i have a question i got this when i was restoring my windows vista to factory setting so i dont know what to do.

  • @imgeyy EL OH EL i mean (coughs) u can either pay Hp Support to repair ur computer for $130 and wait for two weeks or actually listen to what I said in this video with the cost of one blank dvd.

  • I just turned on my computer and it just goes straight to the code purple box how do I go somewhere else to delete the file

  • Just think these idiots who act like they actually solved these problems and made these solutions themselves can shove it.

  • how to change to the file checkdmi.cmd. ? from c:\windwos.system32|

  • Can you help me amn i got the code purple when it boots up what do you think i should do?

  • if u get the code purple. just change it to window 7. but u got to check you computer see if it is able to run window 7. i got the code purple and i just switch it to window 7 and it work for me. oh and when i had the code purple i was on vista.

  • When the code purple screen comes up just hit shift F10. You will be at a command prompt. Change to the folder that has the file checkdmi.cmd. Delete it by typing "del checkdmi.cmd". Windows boot process continues from where the code purple interrupted. While in windows go create a new checkdmi.cmd file if you want. I didn't need to. But it might need to be there to prevent the code purple again on some systems. But all the cmd files in the D:\hp\bin\checkdmi folder can be changed.

  • I got ultimate boot but I dont know where to go on the prompt the erase my hard drive 7 times over. HELP.
