I miss the Califronia waves. Over here in florida on the gulf side we dont get waves at all unless theres a storm or hurricane.

There are lots of surf spots in Newport. This is The Wedge, and it only breaks that big when the tide is strong enough and in the right direction. But you can surf Newport or Huntington just about any day of the year.

25 feet? really? a monster set rolled in at 8:00am on saturday, bigger than any waves in this vid, and still not even close to 25 feet. But 25 feet does sound cool.

Yes. I am using a small Olympus digital camera zoomed in all the way. The waves in the video don't look , nearly as big as they did when you were standing on the beach. I was there on Sunday also, and we only saw 1 set that was even large. It was biggest on Friday and got smaller thru the weekend. Look at gscottmagnus' video which was taken with a much better video camera, and the size comes through better.

We left shortly before that body surfer hit the rocks. I am very glad I was gone already. I've seen plenty of accidents between the wedge, Newport and Huntington, and nobody wants to see someone get hurt.
I wish this video gave justice to that wave. It was bigger than you think.
