@JohnOmaker Local 2 stage hands union. I.A.T.S.E. Please don't get me wrong John, I worked with some extraordinary people, but all the inner workings and politics got to me. I honestly am all and all pro union. I make good money now as a welder, specifically automated TIG and sub arc. Why, are you offering me a job? :)
@mrmikesims Local 2 the firefighters union? Hey I understood what you said and I agree with you to an extent. However, if you have the skills necessary to join an apprenticeship, you need not rely on family or any other kin folk b/s. If you want top coin for welding 6g high pressure welds, look no further than Locals #1 and #597 for the nearest UNION Boilermaker or Pipefitter near you.
mig is easy took all of a week to get mig certs in all positions asme 6g is the prize for me ,and being able to tig a root pass seems to be in demand too pretty tough but very achievable with a little prctice time
thats great. but ive got 6-6g certs for stick, tig and mig and i still cant find anyone thatll pay more than 17 an hr. and unfotunately, my dad isnt in the union.
Thats big business for you, always trying to be what they call "lean" It sucks. it's not un common for TIG welders to be paid the same as Mig welders at alot of places.
Theirs a tech school here in Kansas a few miles from where I live where he works on some of his cars at and gets people interested in auto mechanics. It might have been there.
