Schumacher was asdviced to come into pits as soon as possible because they needed data of the tyre temps. If you come in slowly data is not meaningful anymore. That is the reason he overtook Alonso who was playing his games.

schumacher actually braked earlier which meant that he could accelerate out of the corner much sooner. look at the video where schumacher's driving style is compared to herbert if you don't believe me.
