  • @kingnando I agree. However, I think at least one lead song by Mary and Flo would have been great. Even if the policy would have been one solo lead for Flo every album and one solo lead for every two album for Mary would have been ok. Mary and Flo should have been featured on more leads during the concept albums and live shows like you said. How could they not release Flo's lead on the Christmas songs beats me. They were best at the 3 part harmonies. Good rival any other group on that:)

  • @mafketays "think it o over...." very true.

  • Never heard this before. Great!

  • If I had been in place in Mr. Gordy, I would have made Diana the official lead for marketing purposes, BUT, to give everyone a fair chance to shine, i'd record more 3-lead parts and a few songs with Mary and Flo on lead(more than 1 per album), plus allow them to sing lead live at least on the broadway covers. Also the special albums like Christmas,FunnyGirl,SamCooke,CountryPopWestern do EQUAL number of leads for all. I bet Flo would have never left the group in 1967 and make 3 big stars, not 1.

  • @Strausd2 Gordy made some good decisions. People look at those and think he was some kind of genius and ignore that he was wrong a lot of the time too (He wanted to can What;'s Going On).

For commercial reasons yeah, having Diana on lead made a lot of sense, but albums (and live shows) would have benefitted with a lot more Mary and Flo.

And even on the singles the ones with better backing arrangements are more memorable than the Diana centric ones.

  • I'm going to make a break with tradition, and agree with the Ross fans. Diana did a great Job on this and i think the song sounds fantastic. But, It would have been nice to hear a trial run with Florence doing lead. But that won't happen. Sadly.

  • I THINK DIANA DID A GOOD JOB ON THIS

  • Flo is all over that background

  • @love2ball11 AGREED! Flo should have had the lead on A Change is Gonna Come and Shake too.

  • I saw some newspaper articles in there. They seemed really interestingg. Very good pictures.

You can hear Florence so clearly here. Love it.
