  • hey

did anybody used those bass' for metal music? do you think is it hard switching from usual bass guitar to an upright one? please help guys

  • @estebanspromise You could try looking at the ThinkNS website and see if there are any metal artists on there. The tone is very different when using bass guitar strings. I use double bass strings because I play arco much of the time. Its difficult switching from BG if you treat the instrument like a BG, its better to have some regimented DB lessons to have accurate technique on this instrument.

  • exellent sound perfect interpretation,¡¡ thanks for share whit us......just a quick question , i have a 5 string double bass ns design whith low b , how i should do it for change to high c , did you make any adjustment???and the same for the acoustic....i love renaud garcia fons sound too....thanks for your music

  • @MrHernybass On either bass you should check to make sure the curvature of the fingerboard is appropriate if you want lower action strings while being able to play arco. Also the board must be perfectly flat for a high C.

On the acoustic bass, you may need to have the bridge redone, the slots may be too wide for thinner strings.

  • This double bass sounds sooo nice!

  • @estebanspromise They are actually quite popular in metal, but switching from electric is dependent of a few different things. The biggest being neck length. Some EUBs come in the 32-34 inch neck styles of an electric, but most are 42 inch necks. This can make the switch kind of difficult since you have to completely relearn the fret board.

  • DAMN! Never seen this instrument before o_o sounds badass!

  • @JohnBurgessMusic thank you for your reply. I do not know the difference btw bg strings and double bass strings, so I need to play it at least at a music shop. My bigger concern is the style of holding the vertical one, because I will switch from horizontal (bg) to vertical-upright if I choose to buy one upright bass. The tone is different as you mention but I think it may be solved by different kind of amplifiers though I most of the time play rock instead of metal.

  • I love your playing but I hate the electric upright bass, it sounds like a fretless bass guitar so it defeats the purpose, but great bass playing

  • nice! just a little too fretless sound but lovely playing!
