I think when 'indie' people hope that a band never becomes very famous they don't really care about the band, just that they can say they listen to a band that's not mainstream. I love indie music... but for all the bands I listen to I only hope the best for them and that they become famous, because in the end that's most beneficial to them and means they will keep producing more great music.

idk i dont think complexity defines musical talent, i love john bonham, and led zeppelin, and i really like the born ruffians and the way this guy plays. I think musical talent comes from being able to make something that people like so complex or not i think this guy plays well, I think the guy from vampire weekend plays well. what people like is relative to taste so don't down on somebody just because you dont like their musical style. Wish i could see these guys idk when they come to georgia

I get to see them tomorrorrorrow! FUCK YEAH. <3

@imakery that song cousins is pretty rhythmically intense. No weird time signatures, but plenty of cool syncopation and some nice chops.
My favorite "indie rock" drummer is Brian Mcomber, from Dirty Projectors. Does some cool stuff, like in the song "knotty pine"
If you like complex drumming, listen to Hella. fucking ridiculous.
-
@ginisis1 you obviously haven't listened to much music if you consider vampire weekends drumming complex. Again i like the band, but you honestly have no idea what you are talking about.
-
@imakery ouch that hurt, but indie bands can have very complex drumming like vampire weekend and blonde redhead, whose drummer I think sounds a lot like bonham
-
@CzeslawMeyer this is a very ignorant thing to say. John bonham was very simplistic when the music called for it, but he was also very complex when the music called for it. Thats the thing. He played musically. Also, I am not knocking the drumming of Born Ruffians, I love the band i love the song and the drumming is great. I'm just saying that Bohnam is not overrated.
you indie kids are all the same, you can't take anything that is more complex than a cardboard box.
-
i could careless about how great you are at an instrument, until you can make that instrument lovable to hear.
In your case, john bonham.
So hush, listen to this great simplistic drumming and this wonderful live version of "barnacle goose", you foul mouth prick.
-
@CzeslawMeyer john bonham is over rated? HE IS THE FUCKING BEST ROCK DRUMMER EVER TO LIVE. He used so many styles and created his own with them. He used jazz, brazilian, and he was a very humble guy too. So shut your fucking mouth.

i wish this stuff was on the radio. but instead we have crappy lady gaga trying to sound futuristi. retarded and deafening at the same time
