@NYCprincess7 There are three different types of friends in the Disney Company. The Disney characters can be friends with one another (but no cross-story 'shipping, please!), and they can have non-Disney character "Friends" who fill in for them in shows and ceremonies. And then there are the Friends who oversee guest interactions with Disney characters and "Friends" of Disney characters. The difference is in the emphasis.

@ztslovebird But most of her friends are Disney characters too. Would you send your friend to work dressed as you? I would'nt. This is Ariel,not Belle in a red wig and pretend tail.

@NYCprincess7 Umm . . . . (how to save someone's childhood from dying via the Santa syndrome) Ariel can't be in 1000 places at once; she has to choose doubles to fill in for her in shows and appearances she just can't make due to scheduling conflicts. Like Princess Amidala in Star Wars episode 1, but without the impending threat of loss of life. In the Disney Parks, they call these doubles "Friends" of their respective characters.
