@babydru If I may say, Goju-Ryu is suitable for people with big strong heavy body in which defense is more important and speed, covering ground isn't so important, but rely more to deflection and counter attack.

Shotokan is better for smaller speedy people, good at covering distance, attack first and get away ASAP.

In Shotokan, speed create attack damage whereas in Goju-Ryu, body mech. like static weight and muscle tension create deflection and attack strength.

application of those techniques differ as well from style to style. Karate is not born for just fighting, if you want to just fight, thats what mma is. Even full contact styles like Enshin and Kyokushin have Kata. It's an art form.
