British Newsreel. May 6, 1940. A German Heinkel HE-111 bomber crashes at the British seaside resort of Clacton while trying to lay mines along the English coast.
It was Victoria Road. It did'nt crash as such. It was minelaying off Harwich and got hit by AA. The pilot saw Victoria Road in the moonlight and thought it was a runway and tried to land. The crew were buried in Burrs Park. cemetary with full Military Honours. Ther grave was still there when I moved from the town in the 70s.
Pretty sure its at the junction of Victoria Road and Skemesdale Road. There used to be a park bench with a commemorative plaque on it marking the spot. It may still be there??
They were trying to make it to the cricket pitch.
