Most of the intermediate and advanced skier do the same mistake when pole planting. They drop their hand at the end and get late for the next turn. They let their pole driving their arms down instead of keeping their hand at the same level and using only their wrist. Lazy arms make that happen but the skier will spend more energy doing this robot dance.

  • Right and don't think about what you have done or do but what you are doing next! There is no bad turn, just better turn. The game is to stay on your feet!

  • im an ex ski instructor, i can honestly say ive made this vid one of my most important to show friends who ask me to teach them, hell it even improved me after years of building up bad habits. Highly recommended. . good practice starts day 1. simple and straight to the point and no baffling the mind with long winded, mind numbing confusing to a beginner and pocket lining core principles day in and day out. this vid says in 30 seconds what 2 days of basi would teach to an oversized group.

  • This is a great video on pole planting. I am heading for ski today, and will surely try this technique.

  • As your feet move past the pole plant the tip comes off the snow naturally all you have to is keep your hands forward, correct?

  • Great...finally somebody talking about poles, and importantly, using them properly. The most misused and misunderstood piece of equipment in skiing.

All over the internet you find people denying that they are even needed at all, and 90% of ski footage on youtube seems to show them being used badly or just waved around aimlessly.
