Alicia Keys does not settle for the cookie cutter pop format with each song she creates. She is thinking about a lasting creation. She makes songs that will be classics long into the future. IMO, you can put If I Ain't Got You, Fallin', Superwomen, Teenage Love Affair, Empire State of Mind Part II, and Like I'll Never See You Again up against the music of Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Stevie Wonder, Gloria Gayner, etc. She is the modern day version of these soulful classics of the past.
