An experimental "magnetic telescope" draws down a fireball from space. Despite warnings, the callous "professor" tries it again, this time on a full-fledged comet. Even Superman is unable to halt its mighty momentum. Is Metropolis doomed? Video from Archive.org

  • When I was a kid I never understood why the magnetic beam showed up as blue when it was attracting and red when it was repelling. But now that I understand the concept of Doppler shift it makes sense: something is blueshifted when it's coming towards you and redshifted as it moves away. Interesting!

  • Back when I was younger I always thought the green comet was this version of kryptonite since even Superman was repelled since he tried to hit it twice only it barely weakened him.

  • How could she kiss him... HE'S STANDING RIGHT THERE.... and not make the connection between Superman and Clark?

  • pretty good animation for this year ..

  • @HerbertHKohl I agree. Trying to rationalize this is like trying to rationalize why if Superman's powers come from Earth's yellow sun, how does he fly at night, use his powers underground, or anywhere else where he's out of the sunlight? or for that matter, how does he have powers on planets outside this solar system?

Solution, don't think about it and enjoy the show. That's what I do.

    Lois at 5:17 is saying:

    "Yes, for the moment"

  • @pyrogyra72

That was a tribute. Notice the name of the comet in said episode was "Fleischer's Comet". The producers drew a lot of inspiration from these cartoons for the DCAU.

  • This cartoon is not scientifically sound. Don't try to rationalize it, just accept that its a cartoon.

  • I think it's interesting that this story was recycled in Superman TAS, when Supergirl was introduced. (Little Girl Lost.) Darkseid and Granny Goodness use a machine to bring a comet down to earth.

  • @onorebakasama Thank you very much.
