i started to read this book because i"m interested in war and Africa but that i"m almost finished this book and i cant believe that people not only children can do these things and then have a normal life after... it shows that the human mind can over come anything and that's why i think people who think they have it hard should read this and realize you don't and if you did you can get over it with some help.

A verandah is kind of a porch. It is a small terrace with a roof attached to the entrance of the house. If the word is used continously you must take it as a key to the importance of their culture. People sat in this area, socialized, many times he found shelter in a verandah. It is also obviously part of the architecture of houses in this region. The hot days were cooled by this type of building shed it from hot sun. It also shows the european influence on society concerning houses.

Woah. I'm reading Ishmael's book right now. It's made me cry numerous times and I'm not even half way through. May God be with you, Ishmael.
