"Swinging On A Star" was composed by Jimmy Van Heusen and Johnny Burke for the 1944 film, "Going My Way", starring Bing Crosby. The song's origins actually began with an off-handed remark heard by Van Heusen that Bing had made to one of his kids who had complained of having to go to school the next day. Bing scolded the child with "If you don't go to school, you'll grow up to be a mule", and therein lay the idea for "Swinging On A Star". Although the song was used in the film winning an Academy Award that year for Best Song, this hit recording took place on Feb. 7, 1944 with the Williams Brothers Quartet (including a young Andy Williams) backing Bing.
