Nadine Billgen, a doctoral student at the University of Georgia, presents her paper "'Where Are You From?' in PR: Does Country of Origin Matter in Organization-Public Relationships?." Using a post-test only experimental design (N = 234, with control group), this study investigated the role of country of origin in organization-public relationships with a German or South Korean car-maker. Focusing on correlations between the perception of country of origin and organization-public relationship, the impact of car ownership, and willingness to consider a purchase, the study found that country of origin can have both limiting and enhancing effects. Communicated relational commitment was the only relationship factor showing statistically significant correlations with country of origin. Implications for the practice of PR and theory development are discussed. This research was conducted as a part of Dr. Kaye Sweetser's fall 2010 JRMC 8010 graduate Research Methods class at UGA's Grady College.
