Yes, abstinence makes common sense. Having said that, I haven't been able to call myself a Christian since 1988. The son of a god crucified, to redeem the god's own barbaric creation just failed to make sense anymore. There's also the not so slight issue of "omnipotence." Why create something you know is flawed and then condemn it for being flawed when you created it? There's enough irrationality to go around on this plaent as it is without relgion to muddy the waters even more!
