First test of a new modifier for the MegaFiers mesh animation system for Unity. This allows you to paint a deformation onto a mesh in a ZBrush type way. You can set the size of the brush, the amount to add and the falloff mode and amount. You can also select a mode from add, subtract, set and multiply to change the way in which the system adds to the effect. There is also an option to allow the effect to decay away over time. The user can set the direction of the effect or the system can use the normal from the mesh so the system can paint onto spheres for example.

  • Show the resulting wireframe once in a while! I don't understand if you start with a pre-tessellated mesh (and so fixed polygons), or if you really tessellate on the fly à la ZBrush.

  • @benblo42 No extra tessalltion is done this is purely a modifier to existing geometry. Though I will put it on the list to do a more advanced version where faces are added, that should be interesting.

  • Chris will it be possible to animate the paint strokes...kind of like a ripple effect.

  • @24pfilms That is an interesting idea, I will have a think on that one, easy to do just trying to think of how the animations would be built. I shall ponder :) The thing is as it is a modifier you can easily script the params your self to do whatever you like, you just provide each frame a position, a displacement amount and any other params the modifier does the rest.

  • Could be really interesting for a game concept with physic's and colliders on the terrain, especially if the terrain was animating over time, or in relation to a ball like game object;)

  • @Gawaine1066 ok thanks for clarifying, I suppose your initial geometry must be quite dense then! I wonder if it's efficient in a real-world scenario...

  • mega-fiiers, yet another amazing addition!
