An explanation of the thought experiment doesn't realy matter any more since we have seen its predictions work in the space program. Clocks on the orbiting space station (which moves very fast, but nowhere near the speed of light) lose about 25 microseconds a day or about 9 milliseconds a year.

Spent another few minutes thinking about this. If you are a waveform (as we all are) and you speed that waveform up to the maximum speed that a waveform can travel at, then, like in the Doppler Effect, that waveform will have a greater wavelength. If wave theory is correct, then in order to preserve energy, if a wavelength goes up, the frequency must decrease in proportion to that. So, the faster you go, the lower your frequency, and thence, the slower everything that makes you up moves.
-
Only one answer makes sense - that your speed is relative to the movement of the atoms that make you up, because those atoms have a wavelength. In short, the faster you go, the more of a Doppler Effect you have on yourself. (no, I'm not on LSD)

1) when twin b's speed is constant there is no actual time difference, Special relativity has to do with the constant speed of light. one doesn't actually age slower or faster there. Where the actual time difference comes from is the initial acceleration and the turn around.

Nature has to preserve its speed limit, the speed of light. Travelers on the speeding shuttle are actually slowed in perspective to everyone else. Someone running on the space shuttle can't break the speed of light, thus the shuttle itself cannot. Time and space are intertwined so time works with space to preserve this limit. This is evidenced in GPS satellites today, who have built-in devices to fix the off calculations of time. Covered in Einstein's Theory of General Relativity completely.

The paradox can be solved within Special Relativity an it has to do with the turning of the spaceship, because there it changes its inertial reference frame therefore changing the travelers view of simultaneity. For a more thorough explenation just look at the wiki: wiki/Twin_paradox#Resolution_of_the_paradox_in_special_relativity

Twin b's velocity is relative to all the matter in the galaxy that is moving at relatively the same speed as twin a. Relative to all the other matter twin a is standing still and twin b is moving incredibly fast. There are reference points, thats why you can tell who is moving. Thank you.
