i did a hi-ab course but we didnt have to lift blocks or anythin, just traffic cones attached to a rope, as long as we could place the cones on top of each other using the controls we got the certificate.

@MrJonnyboyification - Thank you for your comment, it is not un-common to hear about some providers only training with traffic cones and also with buckets of water; at the start of a Novice course this can be seen as a good form of practice on use of controls, but as i'm sure you have found out it gives you very little or no knowledge of moving live loads out in the real world. When you get a chance in the future, consider booking yourself on an accredited ALLMI refresher course. Regards, Derek

Thanks for your repy. We teach both methods (side on and end on), plus splitting the packs as the operator is not always in a position to off load in any one method.

i also use lorry mounted cranes not just hiab no one i know lifts them on their side like in the vid. no prob putty im not comfortable doing it that way if you are fine do you pick paving stones up side on? i think the same reason applies

@bobdawolf you are better picking the blocks up the way they are doing it in the video even tho the grab isnt touching all the blocks you have less chance of the blocks spliting apart and incase your wondering yes i do do use a hiab as my job and yes i do lift pallets of blocks

ok big wheelers you dont pick blocks up by the side you pick them up end on thus your clamp touches all blocks on a leg
