The band I work for opened for them on that tour, so I got to see that stage being built and tore down like 45 times.

Obviously people with bigger brains than I... why didn't they just set up where they wanted the stage to be rather than moving it? There must be a reason behind it.

To save time they build the stage on one end and rig all of the lights on the other. Then they raise the lights and push the stage into place under them.
