Genesis is the first thing you see when you open the Bible and it's just a fraction of the whole book. It's only the beginning, and this story not only conflicts with proven scientific facts, it conflicts with itself. Even if you completely reject all the science and knowledge developed over the past 2000 years, this story doesn't even hold water on its own! There are 46 more chapters in Genesis, and 65 more books in the Bible. And all the stories in the books that follow Genesis conflict with science and all known knowledge, and often with themselves. Now imagine if you bought a map as flawed as this book is, and found out it was full of mistakes and contradictions. How long would you keep using a map that's always wrong? How many wrong turns and dead ends would it take before you realized it was useless and threw it in the garbage? When you boil it all down, whether it's the literal story of creation in Genesis, the so-called science of creation, or the theory of intelligent design, the core of the Christian argument is "what else could it be?" Well, how long you got? The list of what else it could be could go on forever. And everything on that list, no matter how crazy or absurd it is, would have just as much evidence to back it up as believing in magic does. Nothing in the natural world needs assumptions, or magic to explain. To believe in any religion you must believe in magic because it's the only way the mistakes and contradictions in the holy books can be explained away. There's just one little problem - magic isn't real. Without the magic the Bible falls apart. And without the Bible, Christianity falls apart. Every religion falls apart without its holy book. No one who has any knowledge of science, history, archeology, paleontology, biology, or cosmology can possibly believe the Bible's version of creation unless they've been brainwashed to believe it. Only mindless vegetables who can't think for themselves because they've had scripture pounded into their brains from early childhood could ever buy such obvious nonsense. Now look - no one say with 100% certainty that there is no God, but it CAN be said with 100% certainty that there is no evidence that proves there is. No one can prove a negative, and it's not the skeptics job to disprove the claim - the skeptics job is to be skeptical. The burden of proof is on person making the claim. Do I know the answer? No - nobody does. But I sure as hell know the wrong answer when I see it. I can't tell you what the truth is -- all I can do is tell you what it isn't. If you actually believe the universe was created by God in 6 days less than 10,000 years ago, and that all life was created in its present form during just 2 of those 6 days, you're an complete idiot. It's unfathomable to me why this book isn't required to have a sticker on the front that says: Warning -- this book is fiction. Do not base your moral conduct or political position on its contents. Must be 18 to read. Illegal for use in public schools. That's the beauty of being an atheist or agnostic. It's obviously beyond the ability of humans to figure it all out, so why bother? Just be the best person you can, enjoy life, and don't worry about it. One thing I do know for sure -- peace & love... that's where it's at!

  • @PaulGBradford I DON'T care what you or anybody else believes. I'm not responsible for what 7 billion people are sitting around thinking! I care what people DO - and if they DO something based on their belief, THEN I care a lot about what they believe. Like I said, my beef with religion (other than feeling sorry for people who dedicate their lives to fear and willfull ignorance) is mainly political. Just look at the news right now - evangelicals have gone off the cliff!

  • @PaulGBradford No real God would have any reason to hide. No real god would make every human be a sinner at birth and expect them to spend the rest of their lives paying for something they didn't do. Any god who would inflict so much pain and suffering if there was another choice is not worthy of worship. No real god would play us like a game and make us fight his battles. I see nothing spiritual or virtuous about such a god. No lessons there. Obviously Bible god is made up - thank god!

  • Not to mention without the sun earth surface temperature will drop to about 3 degrees about absolute cero, -270 C. I know for a fact Nitrogen, our atmosphere's main component, turns liquid at -196 C. How did all plant life survived for one night under that much liquified nitrogen?

  • I have found that the best litmus test for any religion is if you can find 2 or more people that agree that this religion is the way to go.... that means that religion is bullshit.

  • @PaulGBradford On my main channel page just click the "send message" button. Not sure what the character limit is but I've never run out. BTW, I don't 100% discount the possibility of some "creator" but I'm pretty sure if there was one, his "personal involvement" with his creation ended with the big bang.

  • @oldfartrants Serendipitously, I was watching a video you uploaded on 11/11/10 called 'Yin Yang' as I was getting your response posted to my e-mail. Black/White, Up/Down, Good/Evil ,,, I get it already! ;-)

Imperfection, impermanence and mortality are intrinsic aspects of the Universe (or, as I would have it, 'creation'). What believers call 'glory' requires these 'intrinsic aspects'. If you tell me how to 'PM' I will further share my expositions....

  • @PaulGBradford I don't share my e-mail for security purposes but you're welcome to PM me with the info - I'd love to see it.

  • @PaulGBradford Why is the path to peace and justice riddled with incompetence? Fantastic and thought provoking question Paul! Unfortunatley I have no answer. My guess is that the universe runs like a perpetual machine based on opposites - physics pretty much confirms this. Therefore we cannot have any action without reaction, black without white, up without down, or good without evil. We will never acheive Utopia - it would be unnatural.

  • @oldfartrants I just checked my e-mail and it doesn't appear that you've gotten around to requesting my reflections on the book of Genesis. You and I agree that many 'Christians' are stupid, frightened, superstitious and pathetic souls who are being pushed around by thieving bastards. Read my work before claiming that ALL Christians are that way.

  • @oldfartrants You bring up legitimate questions that deserve serious discussion by intelligent people. Can wickedness and sin be eliminated by destroying wicked people? Why is the path to peace and justice riddled with incompetence? Is it possible for killing to be 'wrong' when it's so prevalent? How should one respond to Biblical depictions of God that make it seem as if He's capricious, or wicked, or oblivious? The questions are important whether you're a believer or not.

  • @oldfartrants With Gilgamesh you can see where christianity got the idea for Noahs ark.....LOL A whole different religion and different story... You can even see how Utnapishtim might be corrupted over time to Noah...... Napish... Na... awww hell its a mouth full.... lets call the guy Noah...... The same with the story of Adam and Lilith....

  • @chiefdancingostriche Hmm I suppose you think it's a ancient script for a Star Treck movie as I do eh.. I must admit theres plenty of beam me up Scotty complete with a shape shifter talking snake... :-) peace
