From Prince George Citizen breaking news:

A derailment this morning along CN's tracks in Prince George sent flames skyward and burning fuel created a plume of black smoke hundreds of feet high.

About 10 a.m. a locomotive derailed and collided with a train on the opposing set of tracks, said RCMP Const. Gary Godwin.

The incident occurred across the Fraser River from Paddlewheel Park in South Fort George.

Flames leaped almost as high as the cutbanks, and burning fuel discharged down the bank into the Fraser. Flames were visible on top of the water.

A lumber car was also burning.

Hundreds of onlookers viewed the blaze from Paddlewheel Park. That led to the park being closed due to the danger of a tanker laden with diesel exploding.

Three locomotives were northbound while the train with the lumber was southbound.

It is unknown how many rail cars were involved, nor if there were any injuries.

  • Lydia, nice video. I also use a cybershot camera. I'm not sure if the audio is constantly giving trouble for you, but here's what I found. When you offload video from a cybershot, it converts movie files into jpg files, destroying the audio. To get the audio, use the original mpg files. I found these in a folder that was formed in the upload called "Originals". This is how it worked on my Mac. Good luck, hope it helps.

  • Thanks for the input - we use a Mac too. Hopefully we can get it to work. (the odd thing was the .mov files we found played audio fine in quicktime pro; but wouldn't export audio, and iMovie imported the files without audio. iTunes also played the audio, but we couldn't extract it. Very odd for a Mac.
