Big Dave tries out a new spec on his level 50 mage courtesy of Dissb. It's an offensive minded 'glass cannon' high on damage low on survivability. It will take Dave some time to get accustomed to the spec but it seems an interesting change of pace for now.

I also recommend buffing yourself in a different order when you revive: first go with Flaring Intellect, then Neddra's MIght, then Fire Armor and finally Glyphs. The reason is that debuff abilities (like purges and Degeneration work with a 'first in-first out' mechanic, in other words, whatever you buffed yourself first will be the buff that is taken away first.
If you get purged, you want your least important buffs to be stripped away before your more powerful ones.

Probably the reason you were having trouble killing them is because you move too much and because you're not using your range to your advantage.
With this spec you have great kiting survivability, but if you're not being focused you want to stay calm and cast from a distance. That means do not wait for opportunity and Inferno: those are your finishers, and don't bring attention to yourself by going into melee range.
Even lower ranks can own with this spec.

@bigdaveischeap The best advice I've gotten for stopping the backpedaling is to unbind your "back" key. If you *must* have it, bind it somewhere completely inconvenient, so that you only use it when absolutely necessary.
As for the other key binds, if the mouse thing works for you, go for it. I guess from watching your screen, it's hard to know what you're doing with your hands, but perhaps adding more hot bars might increase your awareness of the abilities you mentioned not using. Great vids!

@nexalacer Yeah the backpedaling is just something I have never been able to break myself from.
I say "my number 1" but I don't have that bound to 1 except for cosmetic purposes (so that on the screen it shows '1'). I have most of my actions bound to mouse keys and I use shift to modify those. I also use F, E, and R on the keyboard (my FPS roots are showing). I never press 1-0 keys to actually cast spells.
Thanks for the good advice much appreciated.

A couple of things:
1) backpedaling = supermegabad in PvP.
2) your key bindings are very difficult for quick access.
I recommend you check out Taugrim's Strafing and Key Binding guide!

@0penYourEyes I'm sorry, but this is a troll comment. Get your anger towards the world in general elsewhere, dude.
