The beta Sonic Crackers is the prototype of the 32X game "Knuckles Chaotix". The "Attraction" level is very glitchy, with Sonic and/or Tails falling through the floor. The Metal Tower has a small mistake near the end where you can't reach the top unless you use the pause trick where you can move around freely while pausing. The map is also unfinished where all you can do is run around however if you pause and press 1, 2 or 3 (on a genesis controller via emulator) you can select one of two stages.

  • I wish people would stop saying this is a beta. You could say it is either a pre-alpha, or tech-demo. stuff goes like this:

    Tech Demo: engine test

Pre-alpha: one or maybe several incomplete zones.

Alpha: one or two complete zones, a couple incomplete

Pre-beta: about 4 zones completed, alot incomplete

beta: more complete, beginning to look like the final

late beta: a few bugs and differences from the final version

final: the retail version of the game

  • it sounds like a synthesizer exploded

  • Beta doesn't really mean "unreleased", beta really means it's about half way done (over half done is delta then gamma, when it's done then it's final). I usually use "beta" to describe a prototype (I really should have used "prototype"), also The Nick Arcade proto is sometimes described as "pre-alpha", since most stuff is unfinished, unlike Simon's prototype.
