Music by David Patterson a former student of Olivier Messiaen performed by
The New England Conservatory Wind Ensemble Charles Peltz director Cloud images by TenBroeck Davison. A thrush's song is played slowly as the melody on the trumpet and the birdsong near its natural speed is played on the piano. Adding overtones from the harmonic series color the birdsong with harmonies. The chimes and skywriting spell Messiaen's name. Look for Messian's love of color in stormclouds, sunsets, sundogs. Clouds appear as God's "fingers," birds, and angels, his "Transports of Joy".
Just thought I'd enjoy this beautiful piece again. It has the timeless quality of the great musician who inspired it.

What a deeply moving tribute. As we survey the endless splendors of the firmament, our souls are caressed by calm, majestic sonorities of bells, brass, and piano. We are soaring skyward toward that place of perfect harmony, beyond the clouds, beyond the ear, into the very heart of the mystery of consciousness, to the celestial House of Messaien.
