For those who don't understand the historical context of this: In the early '90s Apple decided to start licensing their OS to compatible hardware vendors in order to attempt to halt the decline in their market share due to the release of Windows 3.1, among other events. The only problem? While previously relying on high profit margins based on their hardware sales, now that the clone companies could undercut Apple in price, their profits shrank. Steve Jobs killed it once he returned in '97.
