A pair of Mexican Spotted Owls engages in a long session of mutual preening. At the end of the session, a loosened feather floated down and landed on a stack of rocks placed by the trail to alert others to the owls' presence.

These nonmigratory endangered birds mate for life and remain together throughout the year.

Digiscoped by Sheri L. Williamson in Miller Canyon in the Huachuca Mountains of southeastern Arizona on the Southeastern Arizona Bird Observatory's July 22, 2010 Canyon Walk.
