Written by Pat Flynn. Originally performed by New Grass Revival. Arranged a cappella by Dan Whitener.
Dan Whitener's Moderation Concert, December 13, 2006.
Featuring members of the Bard Acappella Group.
Soloists:
Alto: Becky Weiner
Tenor: Dan Whitener

Set list:
Do What You Gotta Do (original arrangement by Dan Whitener), Pat Flynn
Whispering, arr. SPEBSQSA
Gulf War Song, Moxy Früvous
Stopping By Woods On A Snowy Evening (original composition by Dan Whitener), poem by Robert Frost
I Got Rhythm, George and Ira Gershwin, arr. Christopher Clapham
Longest Time, Billy Joel, arr. Deke Sharon and Anne Raugh

The audio on these recordings is not the best we have. There is a high-quality audio recording and the high-quality original video. If enough people want it, we can dub the good audio over the video and post it online. We can also combine good audio with good video and make a DVD or something. Copyright infringement bad! Hulk smash.

  • A few months back, I actually sent Pat Flynn (the writer of this tune) an email in hopes that he sees what they did with the song...

  • @kentrothrock Thanks for that! I actually just did the same thing. I know it's a few years late, but I'd like him to be aware of our version - it's a wonderful song that has always inspired and empowered me, so I hope everyone enjoys it and checks out their original, which can't be topped.

  • Sounds to me like they heard the Cow do it. I'm impressed.

  • Thank you, and many thanks to the Cow (John Cowan) and all of New Grass Revival, the true inspiration for this arrangement.

    No offense to Garth Brooks.

  • Pat Flynn wrote this song, not Garth Brooks. New Grass Revival originaly recorded this song. Garth Brooks did a remake of this song with New Grass Revival as guests on the recording

  • thanks to extrasouth for clearing this up and giving credit where credit is due.

  • This is a great version of this song! I'm a huge Newgrass fan and these folks should be proud of what they did. It was a great choice for an a cappella arrangement! The female singer really nails the emotion of the song; I really think I like it better than the original!!!

  • Very interesting take on this song.

  • that gave me chills

  • That was great... i agree with Kbart129... I love Garth's version, but you guys have mi listening to this son every day!!!

  • Hey Danjo it's Dan McQuaid from Easton Session Two...this vid is awesome great job. I MISS CAMP SO MUCH!!

  • hee, hee, hee. Fun to read the whole thread. Yep, Garth was a big New Grass Revival fan too. I still think he'd go for Cowan's Wichita Way if he heard it. We used to get amused by his recordings of their songs, because he'd hire them and then make like a front man. Well, at least on a couple of the ones he recorded.
