1953 Craftsman Power Reel Mower First Startup 2009

Just a quick video on starting my 1953 Craftsman Power Reel Mower. It probably took about 20 pulls...but since that makes for boring video, I cut most of them out. It should start on her own without gas now that she's had the first start of the season.
Not planning to do much with it this year, but a head gasket is on the agenda.

It cuts great...just too low for use around the house.

Very unique, how often do you use it?

It runs about every 2 weeks or so...I use it to clip the grass next to the driveway since it tends to mow really short, even on high.

It's good...next video is moving the battery to a box behind the seat...better weight for the wheels and an upgrade to an automotive battery...with any luck. :)

@Suggythelump you should NOT use starting fluid it is for diesel engines not small gas engine they will blow up violently, and when it backfires it will go back up through the can and it will explode ... violently

Quit priming it with gasoline and buy yourself a can of starting fluid. It will start on the first pull.

I had the same mower but i scrapped it and kept the engine, which also needs a head gasket. i'm currently in the middle of restoring it
