I joined the Viking Princess at Dover Harbour and we were soon joined by the Guy Moar and his trainer Tim Denyer and supports David Orders and Fumi Ko-Yamazaki. Strong déjà vu as just the month before it had bee David swimming with Tim and Guy on the boat. On a very high tide we steamed down to Shakespeare beach where Guy entered the water at 15:04, slightly delayed by using some of the time to write his name in the sand. It's a very nice day, the sea is calm, there is a large flood tide and everyone is in good humour. There are 5 other boats out with swimmers but none are in sight, they appear to have started well before us, a quick check on the AIS shows them to be far to the east of us, causing some to wonder if they are swimming to Holland today.
As we pull out past Dover a flotilla of Belgium yachts running in a line enter Dover harbour, it is amusing to watch them encounter the heavy swell produced at the entrance and struggle to gain entrance.
Guy is moving well through the water but on his 17:34 feed he vomits violently and looks very ill. He continues and the same pattern occurs for the next 3 feeds, he is bringing up every thing he is taking in and we are starting to worry.
Swimming onwards Guy enters the South West shipping lane at 17:50, his vomiting, whilst feeding, is not seriously effecting his speed but must obviously be effecting his energy reserves. The south west lane is very busy this evening and the at 19:32 just as the light is starting to fade the green head flasher fails and we have to attach a blue glowstick to the goggles strap to replace it. Suitably illuminated he swam onwards,.

We entered the Seperation zone at 20:10, just moments before there had been a truly beautiful sunset behind us, a boiling, churning globe of fire disappearing into the horizon.. and, in front of us, a perfect crescent moon slipped gently beneath the still sea. A moment of pure tranquillity and peace more than slightly spoilt by the sounds of retching coming from the side of the boat.

As darkness settled in Guy finally managed to regain control of his digestive system and the vomiting was over. And rejuvenated he races across the separation zone entering the northeast lane at 20:40.
Even with the heavy ebb tide that is running we are still hopeful for the cape, guy is swimming strongly and through a busy shipping lanehe enters the French coastal waters at 23:45. it's very cold now the north west wind strengthens and everyone on board is wearing coats, and with just half a mile to go the flood tide hits with a vengeance and pushes Guy past the cape. Tim, joins Guy in the water for the final leg and as we wait onboard the Viking Princess Ray escorts Guy into the darkness to land in France just to the East of Cap Gris-Nez.
Guy Moar swam the English Channel in 11 hours and 03 minutes.
