Here's another adventure in our Engines Everywhere series. This one is located on Route 50 between Iuka and Xenia, Illinois in Clay County. These sit and run for hours on end and that's a nearly six foot stroke on the pump. Imagine an entire farmer's field full of these pumping liquid gold!

  • Use a hi RPM engine and you will get rich with all that oil!

  • It looks like a Fairbanks Morse ,with the exposed valves and only one rocker for the exauhst valve, the piston sucks the lightly spring loaded intake valve open .. Not a verry high RPM engine ,if there run verry fast they often swallow the intake valve .. Also a squirt can is required to oil the valves & 1 rocker and are not verry durable in dusty locations with blowing sand or dirt...

  • @Rustaholic777 The firing is steady because the load is steady.

  • This looks like the oilfield southwest of Flora close to my old stomping grounds. That field always had the "smell of money" and the flares at night were really cool to look at! Thanks for posting this!!

  • My dad used to work in the oilfields before he became a full time pastor...I remember going out to the fields with him sometimes and remember seeing these old things running... It was awesome... I was probably about 5 or 6 years old and was absolutely mesmerized

  • @DRNEGOLICIS

    Hear the steady tumping?

That is a Throttle Governed engine NOT a Hit-n-Miss

    Do a search for a hit-n-miss engine.

  • where is the oil at how do they work how do you get the oil from this

  • Does she suck in water when there is a heavy rain? or is it normally covered over?

  • Very nice engine!

  • You can get one of these at your local oil field supply store. But i will tell that they are very costly though. My dad drilled on oil riggs for over 35yrs. And worked in a supply store like the one that iam telling you about. And pumped oil wells on the side as well. So i know how this type of work is like as well i worked in it myself.
