The similar sound is more likely do to the fact that Jeff Lynne co-wrote this song and co-produced the album it is on (Cloud Nine). I think I saw him in the video too (playing the violin).

It is hardly surprising the Jeff Lynne/ELO sound is noticeable, they were a band who went out of their way to emulate that Beatles' sound in the first place. It was as close to the people who knew how to get the Beatles as George could get.
