Ostkreuz Station, East Berlin

Ostkreuz Stadt-Bahn Station, East Berlin, in Communist East Germany June 1989, just weeks before the Iron Curtain was wrenched from top to bottom across Europe. All East Berlin suburban trains at the time had to pass through this station on their journey. The rolling stock seen here was built in 1927 and operated on both sides of the Wall on segregated rail systems.

Wunderschöne aufnahmen, zu der Zeit konnte man als Berliner noch stolz sein auf die S-Bahn. Was Krieg und Teilung nicht Kaputt machen konnte, hat der Wessi in zehn Jahren zugrunde Gerichtet.

@DoctorNatas Das Zusammenwachsen von Ost und West hat möglicherweise das Ende dieser schönen Arbeitspferd Züge und auch die siginificance dieser Station geeilt.

@Omithy Circle line has 6 cars, but at the moment 8 cars. In the rush hour most lines have 8 cars except for S8 which always has 4 cars. 2 cars aren´t enough for most lines and except for the BR480 no classes can run as 2 car trains.

The problem is more that a lot of cars are in repair rather than passenger decline.

It's funny to see how the S-Bahn's of the late 1980's and early 1990's almost all had a 8-rail car configuration.

Nowadays, almost all are in the 6-rail car configuration. 2 rail cars are gone per each S-Bahn train.

Population decline perhaps?
