Regular folks don't like irreverent humor. It makes them mad. They don't like witty people and witty things. They feel threatened by it. But they don't mind if it's delivered in a package that doesn't make them feel threatened; and that is why you can have irreverent comedy in the form of cartoons, like the Simpsons or Family Guy, but not live feature, like "Police Story", or "Galaxy Beat" or "Greg the Bunny". Alienating regular everyday folks alienates the majority of the audience, bad for biz.
I *just* watched the pilot of "Quark" -- it's what led me here (thanks to the YT "related" side search). After seeing it as a kid, I'd thought about it now and then over the years and you know everything -- and then some -- is on YT these days!!!
