@katchum yup those were some great accents! never heard anyone else put those in that part.

If that piano could talk it would say. my bones are shaking, please come back !
-
@katchum Yes. In fact, some of us play those middle voices in the two earlier sections of the "slow" section as well. There is a descending line of 3 notes, which in turns descends on a larger scale. I bring all of them out when in the mood, but very few people find these important. I have to say that this performance was a bit rushed for me and didn't allow for the full effect of these nuances. Nevertheless, he is (was) a great pianist.

@katchum you just randomly choose that

@1Janny1 i'm talking about the competition. This is the Tchaikovsky competition, where he is playing Scriabin
-
this is an etude which is practically impossible to play in a completely satisfactory way... In this performance I like that ususally unheard inner voice at 00:57
-
@ftballfrk Could be, it doesn't sound one bit like Tchaik to me. Chopin had a pretty unique sound, only one close was some of what Liszt wrote.
-
@1Janny1 nonono, that's chopin comp, this i think this is tchaikovsky, although i might be wrong,. . . he got absolutely robbed here, denis matsuev won the comp

Is this the competition where there was no first place awarded and Suly took second place and he refused to accept? The whole thing was weird in my opinion. To me whoever is present and ranks the highest deserves the highest position.
I always liked Sultanov - he is very talented. This particular Etude seems too rushing to me the way he performs, suppose to be more of Pathetic character rather than "racing" - it is, probably, "competition thing..." too much stress and fear to be too musical... The middle part is better. Regina Romanowska, pianist
