Carol is a Yoncalla-Kalapuyan woman six generations down from Chief Camafeema who was headman of her clan in 1855. Camafeema was threatened with death if he would not move to the Grand Rhonde reservation, but he refused to leave the burials of his people.
Carol accepts the responsibility for the graves of her people modeled by Camafeema and battled to get back the remains of her relatives after they were illegally exhumed from a gas pipeline project near Brownsville, Oregon. She explains in this film what happens to the spirits of the departed when their burials are disturbed. Carol's aunt, Laura Grabner, whose great grandmother is buried at Brownsville, talks about her family's history and culture concerning their burials. http://www.sanctuaryvideo.com
