The crux of this film centres on the duality of man...how can a loving father at home be a murderous monster at your?

What's so chilling about this performance is the fact that you become Colonel Kurtz just by watching this movie.

we ALL wear many masks. The face your mother sees is not the face your boss sees is not the face your son sees is not the face your assailant sees....

Skinning a face in certain areas of South America seemed to have an impact years ago, some tribes felt that what you looked like in death is what you looked like in the afterlife

This scene should be seen by anyone who wants to understand "dirty wars" around the world, from Argentina to Argelia, from El Salvador to Chile. Coppola knows the way those men thought. Torturing pregnant women, murdering children: whatever "has to be done" to defeat the "internal enemy". The french, even more than the americans, were masters at this game, which they developed in Argelia and Indochina: they taught their "unsound" methods in Argentina and other south american countries.

The colonel has gone over to Satan.

There is no excuse for the excesses he suggests.

My favorite scene #7 --- only 15 minutes acting by Marlon Brando dominates the 195 min. movie ---
