When Nickie Danison first contacted me about getting some breathing exercises, she started crying in the middle of explaining that she was suffering from multiple sclerosis. One lung was not working at all and the other was very close to failing completely. She needed to use an oxygen tank all through the night and much of the day. Her doctors had tried steroids and other conventional forms of treatment to halt progression of the disease with no success. The next step was to make an incision in her throat and install a tube that would pump oxygen into her lungs. Because she had been given so many steroids and drugs to combat the disease, her immune system was weak and with the tube came a severe risk of pneumonia.

She came in to her first lesson full of hope with her oxygen tank under her arm. After three lessons both lungs opened up and began functioning. She no longer needs an oxygen tank or surgery. Her doctor credits the voice training as a catalyst responsible for jump-starting her failing lungs. This is the first documented instance where singing lessons have been successful in the treatment of multiple sclerosis. - Thomas Appell
