Shows once again why Richter was the God of late 20th century pianists ... the best combination of pianist and musician. He is far beyond beauty, though his playing has its extraordinary beauty. He is beyond charm. He plays only for himself. But his consciousness is so universal that when he hits it, he is more easily and deeply comprehended than any other musician. The tone is one of his sovereign wonders ... so deep and grounded, more discovered than created or shaped. An absolute genius.
