"Orders for US-manufactured durable goods declined 1.3% in August, the largest decline in a year, as orders for transportation equipment fell.
Economists, on average, had been expecting a 1.4% decline for durable goods orders.
However, ex transports came in with a rise of 2.0%, vs. a 1% expected rise.
The Commerce Department's report indicated that shipments in August fell 1.5%, vs. a gain of 2.5% in the prior month.
Meanwhile, inventories of durable goods rose 0.4% in the month of August, following a 0.6% gain in July.
On the other hand, durable-goods orders in July rose an upwardly revised 0.7%, vs. an earlier estimate of 0.4%."
