Ron Paul supporters run into Senator John McCain on Mackinac Island, MI, Sep 22, 2007.

They talk about the apparent paid supporters for another top-tier candidate, as well as the draft.

The draft question was in response to McCain's "joke" to a high school student who asked about his age: "Thanks for the question, you little jerk. You're drafted."

  • I think if they are asking legitimate questions like the draft which McCain is starting to scare me on, then they have every right to ask him a question about it.

  • Saw McCain at a town hall meeting in NH on Fox. A lady was asking a question. He blew her off like a real bully. Actions speak louder than words.

  • @dumuh umm, clearly they DO have every right to ask him that (which they did) but he as an american citizen has every right to not answer it (like he did).

  • If our nation ever did get invaded we would protect OURSELVES, not some dictator.

  • Actually, there was proven voter fraud twice, he stole the election twice, and has been a dictator since.

  • I agree with part of what you said, however, if you speak to many soldiers that have come from the military they would advise you to not sign up. You have FEW rights, and you have to do what your told, even if it's torture and murder of civilians. You can get stop-lossed, and their is no condition for winning (because there's *always* other terrorists out there in other countries), so it's an endless nightmare of carnage with no real goal other than staying alive.

  • Wow. You're so wrong on so many levels.

First of all, the first president to enact the draft was Abe Lincoln, to much opposition.

Nixon came to office in 1969, and did not end the draft until 1973, even though he had promised to do so when elected in '68.

Ford ended the requirement to register for the draft in 1975, mostly as a political move. Jimmy Carter reinstated registration, the Selective Service System in 1980. It remains as a contigency.

Before you talk, get your facts right, bud.

  • im sorry that not everyone loves this country enough to even think about risking their lives. I sure dont.

And McCain said numerous times during the primaries that he would indeed support the draft

  • Funny that a Republican President has NEVER enacted a draft isn't it? Only Dem Presidents have done that in our nations history.

  • Those who get scared when they hear draft are the people that would hide if our nation ever got invaded. McCain would never inact a draft; you people are making yourselves look stupid.

Maybe a little military would give you a back bone, and make you stop bitching about everything. It does a body good, and it feels good to live for something besides your star bucks and your internet.

  • Only three presidents in history have enacted the draft. Lyndon B. Johnson (Democrat), Franklin D. Roosevelt (Democrat), and Woodrow Wilson (Democrat). As soon as Richard Nixon (Republican) came into office in 1972, he signed an executive order to end the draft.

Jimmy Carter (Democrat) reenacted the draft in 1979.

Republicans understand that no one should be forced to fight for something they don't believe in. Don't you agree?
