The University of Virginia hosts a two-day symposium in April 2010 on Alexander Calder's art, its influences and its impacts. Scholars from numerous disciplines share their insights.
A rare demonstration of Calder's first hanging mobile is one of the event's highlights. Alexander S.C. Rower, the president of the Calder Foundation, leads the demonstration. Rower also is Calder's grandson.
The University's Vice Provost for the Arts, the Office of the Vice President for Research, and the University of Virginia Art Museum are among the symposium's sponsors.
